OnePlus 6T: New features and release date

OnePlus is one of the big names in the industry. The Chinese smartphone firm is best known for its OnePlus lineup of flagship phones. OnePlus is selling millions of OnePlus devices every quarter, making it a tough rival that challenges Apple and Samsung. In reality, the OnePlus-branded phones receive positive reviews, with critics praising its premium design and impressive features.

Back in May 2018, OnePlus unveiled the OnePlus 6 following months of speculation. The OnePlus 6 is a great phone we expect from the Chinese firm this year. The device is expected to follow the huge success of the One Plus 5 on the market. The OnePlus 5 was among the best-selling phones last year, beating Samsung Galaxy S8 during its first week of availability.

According to the latest reports, the Chinese firm will release the OnePlus 6T, an enhanced version of the current OnePlus 6. In November 2017, OnePlus announced the 5T, a huge upgrade over its OnePlus 5T. And we are expecting to see OnePlus do the same thing this year.

We have heard some rumors regarding this year’s OnePlus 6T. In this section below, we have rounded up everything we know so far about the OnePlus 6T. For some background, the OnePlus 6 now starts at $529 on the market, which is much cheaper than the $999 iPhone X.

  1. No notch

A notch is a design trend and widely adopted among smartphone firms out there. The current OnePlus 6 keeps up with the on-trend notch, just like the iPhone X. However, it seems that things will be different this year.

According to the latest sources, OnePlus will remove the notch from the upcoming 6T in favor of a full-screen display. Last year, the OnePlus 5T took some design hints from the OnePlus 5, like a headphone jack, premium metal unibody, and rear fingerprint scanner.

There is not much to tell about the design. Sources claim that the upcoming OnePlus 6T will feature a pop-up camera on the front and small bezels. In reality, phones with pop-up cameras have not seen the light of day yet, so OnePlus needs more time to work on the cameras for the 6T.

Rumors say that the OnePlus 6T will be the first OnePlus-branded flagship phone with the an-display fingerprint scanner. And, the Chinese firm has been working on a fingerprint scanner that works under the display for months and it’s ready to announce it this year.

  1. Wireless charging

The OnePlus 6 is a premium phone that has almost everything you expect, but it is missing one feature: Wireless charging. In reality, it remains unknown why OnePlus 6 does not have wireless charging. It seems that the Chinese firm needs more time to work on the feature.

However, tech experts say that OnePlus removed the wireless charging functionality from its OnePlus 6 to achieve a lower price tag. According to rumors, the upcoming OnePlus 6T will support wireless charging this year.

The adoption of wireless charging allows users to charge up their device quickly. Sources say that OnePlus will upgrade the feature to make it a selling point of the phone. In reality, wireless charging has become the standard feature on top-tier smartphones out there. Last year, Apple first adopted wireless charging on its iPhone lineup. And, OnePlus does not want to get left behind in the fight.

  1. Water resistance

The water resistant feature is now an essential part of modern phones on the market. The current OnePlus 6 is water-proof, but it is not IP-certified. That means that the device is not as water-resistant as other premium devices like Samsung Galaxy S9, or Apple iPhone X.

Sources say that OnePlus will bring a proper water-resistant feature to its OnePlus 6T this year, helping the phone survive water damage. According to rumors, the company will re-engineer the enclosure of the phone to make it more water-resistant.

  1. Better battery life

OnePlus-branded phones are pretty reliable when it comes to battery life. The current OnePlus 6 features a 3,300 mAh battery, which is the same size as the 2016 OnePlus 5T. In reality, the OnePlus 6 gives you enough time to handle your daily tasks.

Sources say that the OnePlus 6T will feature a bigger battery under the hood. This makes sense as the device will be powered by Qualcomm’s latest processor and feature a brighter display.

  1. Android P

The OnePlus 6T will run Android P, Google’s latest version of Android. Last week, Google released the final beta of Android P to developers for testing purposes. Android P brings in a lot of new things like a revamped user interface for Settings, a Digital Wellbeing, new Back Button, and a lot more.

The final public build of Android P will be available in fall 2018, which suggests a September release of the 6T. Last year, the OnePlus 5T was released to the public on November 21 following the unveiling event.
