When Apple unveiled its single-port MacBook last year, the MagSafe power connector was not available at all. It was delivered via USB-C instead. If you felt a strong desire to have MagSafe, you had to opt for the Pro edition – MacBook Pro. However, the bad news is that the popular power connector for the Pro lineup has been replaced by the Thunderbolt 3 technology. Don’t stress out yet.
If you rely heavily on MagSafe and can’t actually live without it, you can have recourse to the Griffin BreakSafe Magnetic USB-C Power Cable that is designed to work almost exactly like MagSafe. It has a regular USB-C connector on one end and a detachable magnetic connector on the other end. The cool thing is that the magnetic end is divided into two parts, one (USB-C connector) that plugs into your MacBook, and the other that can easily disconnect from the rest of the cable. This way, if someone happens to trip over your cable, the USB-C connector remains in your laptop, thereby avoiding causing damage to the port. Moreover, the BreakSafe Magnetic USB-C Power Cable saves your laptop from being pulled off a desk or table.
Remember to use BreakSafe with the power adapter that came with your MacBook, as it isn’t a complete charging system. So, you must have a USB-C cable with a breakaway tip at one end.
BreakSafe is rated 60 watts and only compatible with the 12-inch MacBooks. It’s worth noting that the cable is for charging power only, and can’t transfer data or videos. Hopefully, Griffin will roll out a BreakSafe that can work with the new MacBook Pro. The BreakSafe is currently priced at around $40.
So, from now on, with the help of BreakSafe, you can confidently purchase a new 12-inch MacBook, and use it without MagSafe. What are you waiting for? Just get BreakSafe that comes with the safety and convenience.
