iOS is an advanced mobile operating system that powers hundreds of millions of iPhones and iPads. Apple releases new iOS software updates every year, making it smarter and more visually appealing. However, Apple iOS still has its own annoyances that may ruin your days.

One of the major problems I have with Apple iOS is that it autocorrects a swear word to “duck” or “ducking”. In reality, I like the idea of iOS autocorrection as it helps to avoid using cuss words and ruining your conversation. However, there are times when using insults may help you ease your anger.

In reality, you can disable Auto-Correct in iOS Settings, but doing so will turn off the feature completely, which is not something I recommend. Luckily, there is a simple workaround for fixing it without having to disable Auto-Correct. And I will help you find out how in the section below.

How to fix the “ducking” autocorrect problem on iPhone

To stop your iPhone from autocorrecting to “ducking” or “duck”, you can use Text Replacement, a cool iOS feature that helps you reduce errors when typing. In other words, when you type in a shortcut, it’s automatically expanded to a predefined text. For instance, when I type “brt” and it can expand to “be right there”

In this case, it may do the trick.

Step one: First off, open the Settings app on your iPhone, then select General

Step two: Next up, select Keyboard and tap Text Replacement

Step three: From here, tap the Plus button at the top right corner, then enter the “F word” in Phrase and Shortcut fields and hit the Save button.

If you find Auto-Correction annoying, then you can turn it off. To do this, open Settings > General > Keyboard and turn off the switch for Auto-Correct. As mentioned above, I don’t recommend you disable this feature as Auto-Correct is pretty useful and helps you avoid errors while typing in apps that support keyboard.

If you now have a Mac, then you can turn off Auto-Correct by going to System Preferences > Keyboard > Text. From here, simply uncheck the box next to Correct Spelling Automatically.

In short, there is nothing I hate more when I am typing “F***” and it autocorrects to “ducking”. The Autocorrect feature is convenient, but it sometimes becomes a cause of annoyance.

The coolest part is that you can turn off AutoCorrect in specific apps on your Mac. To do this, open an app that supports keyboard like Messages, then click on Edit from the Apple menu at the top and move the cursor over Spelling and Grammar. Now uncheck Correct Spelling Automatically.

Wrapping Up

The iPhone autocorrect “ducking” problem might be pretty annoying for some users. Thankfully, there is a permanent fix for this problem. If you are tired of your iPhone autocorrecting to “ducking” or “duck”, then you have come to the right place.
