Apple Watch is among the best wearables on the market. First debuted back in 2015, Apple Watch quickly gained trust out there, with most critics praising its innovative features and premium design. Apple’s smartwatches are getting smarter and better every year thanks to the company’s tireless efforts in creating a comprehensive wearable ecosystem. Last year, Apple announced the third generation Apple Watch with the addition of LTE connectivity and watch faces. According to recent reports, the Apple Watch 3 with cellular now dominates the smartwatch market. Indeed, Apple shipped 4 million smartwatches in the first quarter of the year, which helped the company grab a 60 percent market share.
Apple is planning to grab more market ground at the end of the year. And, the Cupertino company took a big step to achieve that goal when it announced the Apple Watch Series 4 at its September event. This comes as a surprise as the September event belongs to iPhone models. The Apple Watch 4 is a great wearable as it retains the best aspects of Series 3 while adding a lot of new things under the hood. With that in mind, we have gathered the best features of Apple’s latest version of the smartwatch.
For some background, the Apple Watch Series 4 will be available in four variants including 40mm and 44mm sizes, and with cellular or GPS only. The new Watch will hit retail stores on September 21. However, you can pre-order the device starting on September 14th. In terms of pricing, the GPS-only variant will retail for $399 for the smallest model, while the cellular model will cost $499 in the US. Apple confirms that the fourth generation Apple Watch will be compatible with all current straps and bands on the market.
Bigger screen and display
Apple Watch has not seen an overhauled design in recent years. However, things have changed so much this year as the new Watch sports a larger screen, thus giving you a more immersive experience for any users out there. Specifically, everything about the Apple Watch Series 4 has been re-designed and re-engineered. And, it all starts with a new amazing display. In reality, Apple has pushed the watch’s screen right to the edges and curved the corners to perfectly match with the overall shape of the watch.
The screen is now 30 percent larger than the previous models. However, the device is thinner than Series 3. A bigger screen allows you to see more in apps like Maps, Photos, or Calendar. Besides, Apple has created new complications while revamping the existing ones, so your favorite complications now show more details and information.
There is also a brand new watch face with up to 8 complications. The coolest part is that you can add your friends to your watch face and quickly connect to them with a simple tap. Besides, you can customize your watch face to fit your needs. For instance, you can turn your watch into a big clock that contains different time zones or track your health.
Digital Crown and speakers
Digital Crown has been part of Apple Watch since the day one, offering a perfect way to control your watch. With the Apple Watch 4, Apple has completely revamped the digital crown so it now includes haptic feedback, giving users a more responsive and mechanic feel. Specifically, you can easily flip through your items within different apps like Podcasts or Calendar.
In terms of speakers, the Cupertino firm has redesigned the speakers to make them 50 percent louder, which is great for phone calls and Siri requests. Specifically, Apple has moved the microphone on the new watch far away from the speakers to reduce echo, making your phone calls clearer.
Fall detection and new heartbeat monitor
One of the best highlights of Apple Watch Series 4 lies in the ability to detect a fall. To do this, the watch relies on the new accelerometer and gyroscope to analyze impact acceleration to determine when you fall or slip. When your watch detects that a fall occurs, you will get an alert that allows you to call for an emergency service.
When it comes to heart features, the Apple Watch 4 can track your heart in the background, and then it sends you a notification. If your watch detects any irregular heart activity, it will suggest solutions. The coolest part is that you now can take an electrocardiogram with your watch. To do this, Apple has secretly added electrodes into the back of the watch and its digital crown. Apple says that the feature will be available later this year via a brand new ECG app.
S4 chip under the hood and WatchOS 5
This year’s Apple Watch is powered by Apple’s fourth generation wearable chip called S4. The new chip has a new dual-core, 64-bit processor that delivers up to two times faster performance. Apple Watch Series 4 has the next generation accelerometer and gyroscope that offers twice the dynamic range and can process motion data up to 8 times faster. Besides, Apple Watch Series 4 will run WatchOS 5 at launch. The new software update comes with a lot of new things like auto-workout detection, new running features, or new Walkie-Talkie feature.
