The new MacBook Pro 2016 comes with the Touch Bar, a thin OLED display strip that locates on top of the keyboard. Many Mac users may want to screenshot the Touch Bar like they have screenshot screens on their Apple devices. Thankfully, with macOS 10.12.2, Apple has added a brand new shortcut specifically designed for screenshotting the Touch Bar. And in this guide, we will show you how to take a screenshot of the Touch bar.

How to screenshot the Touch Bar as a File on Mac

Use the keyboard shortcut Command + Shift + 6, and the Touch Bar screenshot should then appear on your desktop as a file.

How to save screenshots of the Touch Bar to your Clipboard

Use the keyboard shortcut Control + Command + Shift + 6, and the Touch Bar screenshot should save to your Clipboard.

The cool thing is that you can also paste the screenshot into any compatible program on any device which is linked with your Apple ID.

If you find the keyboard shortcut for taking a screenshot of the Touch Bar quite long, you can definitely change it for a quicker action.

How to change the keyboard shortcut for screenshotting of the Touch Bar

Step 1: Head to the Apple menu that sits at the top-left of the screen.

Step 2: Click on System Preferences… > Keyboard.

Step 3: Choose the Shortcuts tab at the top of the window.

Step 4: Click on Screen Shots in the left-hand column.

Step 5: Now, in the right-hand column, you will need to choose the action for which you would like to change the shortcut.

Step 6: Click on the existing shortcut to the right of the action. A text field will pop up.

Step 7: Enter a new key combination that you would like to use.

Step 8: Once you are finished, click on the read Close Window dot at the top left corner of the window.

From now on, you can use the newly created shortcut instead of the default one. If you change your mind, simply repeat the same steps and click Restore Defaults.

Note that the keys you just entered aren’t already being used for another keyboard shortcut.
