Before you dive in, there are some points to note:
- Your iPhone is runing on iOS 10 or later. You can check by heading to Settings > General > Software Update.
- Your Mac is running on the latest macOS Sierra. You can update to the new macOS from the App Store on your Mac.
- Once you have installed macOS Sierra on your Mac, it will power up and present to you new functions that you can enable with macOS Sierra. You, of course, will get the option that lets files on your Desktop and in your Documents show up in iCloud Drive. At this point, you need to accept this in order to use the feature.
- Alternatively, you can enable it by doing the following: Click the Apple logo, head to System Preferences > iCloud, tap Options beside iCloud Drive, check the box for Desktop & Documents Folders, and lastly tap Done.

Step 1: On your Mac, head to iCloud Drive in Finder.
Step 2: You need to drag the document or photo to your Mac desktop. You can also add the document or photo to your Documents folder on Mac.
Step 3: On your iPhone, launch the iCloud Drive app. You are presented with two new folders: Desktop and Documents.
Step 4: Tap Desktop so that you can have access to documents or photos on your Mac desktop from iCloud Drive.
Tap Documents so that you can have access to documents or photos in your Mac’s Documents folder from iCloud.
